Ingredients for a Perfect Thanksgiving Turkey

To achieve a mouthwatering Thanksgiving turkey, gather the following ingredients:

  • 1 whole turkey (12-14 pounds)
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 2 cups onion, chopped
  • 1 cup celery, chopped
  • 1 cup carrots, chopped
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tablespoons fresh rosemary, chopped
  • 2 tablespoons fresh thyme, chopped
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 6-8 cups stuffing (optional)
  • 4 cups low-sodium chicken broth

Preparation Steps

Preparing your turkey is essential for a delightful Thanksgiving feast. Follow these steps:

  1. Thaw the turkey in the refrigerator for 24 hours for every 4-5 pounds if frozen.
  2. Preheat your oven to 325°F (165°C).
  3. Remove the turkey giblets and pat the bird dry with paper towels.
  4. Season the cavity generously with salt and pepper.
  5. Create a herb butter by mixing softened butter with garlic, rosemary, thyme, and additional salt and pepper.
  6. Gently loosen the skin on the turkey breast and spread half of the herb butter underneath. Rub the remaining butter on the skin.
  7. If using stuffing, fill the cavity loosely with the prepared stuffing.

Cooking Instructions

Now that you’ve prepared your turkey, it’s time to cook it:

  1. Place the turkey breast-side up on a roasting pan.
  2. Cover it with aluminum foil and roast for approximately 13-15 minutes per pound.
  3. Remove the foil during the last hour to allow the skin to brown. Baste with broth every 30 minutes.
  4. The turkey is done when its internal temperature reaches 165°F (74°C) in the thickest part of the thigh.

Let the turkey rest for at least 20 minutes before carving. Enjoy your delicious, perfectly roasted Thanksgiving turkey!
